Intimate Scotties

Frank Scotties

LBA Club Photo from 1993 ASC Yearbook. Two students are facing forward, and four have their backs turned to the camera, presumably due to still being closeted. The photo came with the caption, “The purpose of the Lesbian/Bisexual Alliance is to support lesbians, bisexuals, and all those who wish to identify with issues pertinent to the gay community at Agnes Scott. The group seeks to serve and educate the College community through forums for discussion and special projects. The group also sponsors some campus functions.” This was the first yearbook to include an LGBT Club for Agnes Scott Yearbooks.

LBA Club Photo from 1997 ASC Yearbook. Included the caption “Members of LBA along with ASC faculty members (Unnamed Faculty Member) and Tina Pippin, at the Gay Pride Parade in Atlanta. This was the first year Agnes Scott College marched in the Atlanta Pride Parade through LBA. The Dean of College, when this photo was taken, would not allow the group to use a legitimate Agnes Scott Banner, so the group had to make a paper banner. Fifteen people attended the parade, with many in the audience shouting, “Go Scotties.” Many alumni were supportive of those walking in the parade. The head student of the group had a chant saying, “We are women, we are fine, best-educated lesbians since 1889.”
